My regular readers know I think the most appropriate statement is a nifty, brief, thought\u00a0provoking title.<\/span><\/em> \u00a0Very occasionally though, one of mine (Wedding Quilt, from \u00a0Colour Memories gallery, or the Ebb&Flow gallery’s \u00a0 “Maelstrom”) \u00a0will<\/em> have a particular statement\/story alongside the full image; but I prefer\u00a0not to say too much so viewers individually perceive and interpret my work.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Anyway, that’s one kind of statement, the\u00a0 brief, minimalist one.\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The other kind of statement is a general one<\/em>,<\/span> part relevant biographical information and part insight into inspiration behind designs and\u00a0use of\u00a0particular materials and techniques.\u00a0What can be tricky, however,\u00a0is how much to say, what to include and leave out, whether to write in the first person (my preference) or the third person which feels\u00a0formal and starchy to me since I am pretty casual – you can tell by the way I write!\u00a0\u00a0 And, then too, the purpose of the statement is highly relevant:\u00a0will it go on a didactic panel in an exhibition, and is that\u00a0group or solo?\u00a0 Will it go in some catalogue? Will this statement be part of a submission of some kind, and if so, who will read it?\u00a0\u00a0Is it to be an intro to my website or blog for example?\u00a0 Or is it one people can find up online if they google me –\u00a0and there’s<\/em> a bag of worms for sure.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Right now\u00a0I am tweaking a version of\u00a0my general\u00a0artist statement\u00a0to\u00a0include in\u00a0an online exhibition of my work as a featured PAM (professional artist member) of Studio Art Quilt Associates\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>I’ll post when my month comes up as I\u00a0don’t know which it is, yet.\u00a0 Every day it seems, I have to do something of this nature related to exhibiting , teaching or publishing quilt-related activity and frequently marvel at how relatively easy\u00a0all this is with\u00a0computers.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Just the other day some event organisers\u00a0in Brasil wanted photos of works my students would be\u00a0making\u00a0at the\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Patchwork and Quilting Festival, Buenos Aires March 2010<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0 for their promotional material.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
