{"id":590,"date":"2009-09-28T13:16:13","date_gmt":"2009-09-28T18:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alisonschwabe.com\/weblog\/?p=590"},"modified":"2012-01-11T14:25:02","modified_gmt":"2012-01-11T19:25:02","slug":"fascinating-rural-textile-exhibition-montevideo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alisonschwabe.com\/weblog\/?p=590","title":{"rendered":"Fascinating &#8216;Rural&#8217; Textile Exhibition, Montevideo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Muestra de Colchas y Tapices de Retazos<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Twice last week I<\/span> visited an exhibition of pieced bed coverings made in several different rural areas of Uruguay\u00a0&#8211; some of the historic antique pieces which\u00a0Las Traperas, Uruguay&#8217;s group of patchwork quilters, have been researching over the past year or so.\u00a0 The exhibition fits right into the rural theme of this year&#8217;s Dia del Patrimonio, held over last weekend, in which many buildings and facilities not always open to the public\u00a0were open for the people of Uruguay to visit and appreciate.<\/p>\n<p>Well lit, and beautifully set out in the events centre at the Alliance Francaise, Bvd. a beautifully knitted and fringed throw rug or summer bedspread, and, get this &#8211; <em>knitted out of the string that sewed the sides and tops of sacks of sugar &#8211;\u00a0carefully pulled out,\u00a0 washed and wound and saved\u00a0&#8211;
