{"id":2777,"date":"2014-06-13T11:47:20","date_gmt":"2014-06-13T16:47:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.alisonschwabe.com\/weblog\/?p=2777"},"modified":"2018-10-26T13:40:19","modified_gmt":"2018-10-26T18:40:19","slug":"revisitng-older-works-or-what-was-i-thinking","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alisonschwabe.com\/weblog\/?p=2777","title":{"rendered":"Revisiting Older Works, or &#8216;What Was I Thinking?&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this year, an article about my four Quilt National quilts appeared here\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/quiltnationalartists.com\/journey-landscape-alison-schwabe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">http:\/\/<wbr \/>quiltnationalartists.com\/<wbr \/>journey-landscape-alison-<wbr \/>schwabe\/<\/a>\u00a0 and it seemed a good place to start\u00a0a broader study for a powerpoint presentation I was asked to give to a\u00a0 meeting of\u00a0Ozquilt in Perth WA last month\u00a0 (May 2014).\u00a0 It was suggested I might\u00a0talk on inspirations, themes and my processes.\u00a0 Naturally, revisiting\u00a0mixed media work and quilt\u00a0making done over 35+ years\u00a0led to\u00a0 the rediscovery of many works I&#8217;d pushed to the back of my memory &#8211; bit may be obvious to you, but didn&#8217;t occur to me at the time: floodwaters, whether seeping or pouring over a tiled floor are <em>not<\/em> clear and sparkly!\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>I<\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em> still have this piece, and now put it in the category of &#8216;not a great one&#8217; because by this time I was more focused the powerful force of water in\/on landscape.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t think\u00a0this is an\u00a0especially wonderful a quilt, either, and hardly surprises me it is still &#8216;In Artist&#8217;s Collection&#8217;\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>Again, it had to be made,<\/em><\/span> probably so I could move on.\u00a0 The murky green main fabric is quilted with freehand water current lines, though they&#8217;re hard to see in the clear nylon thread I used in the twin top stitch needle.\u00a0 Although I have revealed something about this work, it still amazes me\u00a0that I actually made this\u00a0one\u00a0&#8211;
