Inspiration is everywhere – this is a section of a Kuba cloth on display in a history museum in Medellin, Colombia,\u00a0celebrating the fusion of African culture in with the native pre-Colombian Indian culture which of course were\u00a0brought in contact with each other by the third, overwhelming influence, the colonial Spanish.\u00a0 The Slave Trade\u00a0C16-C19\u00a0was the mechanism by which this came about.\u00a0\u00a0Everywhere we went in Colombia there was a stong pride in diversity and colour from the mixing of the races.\u00a0 Colour was everywhere, and not only of the people but\u00a0rich vibrant colour surrounded everyone and everything.\u00a0 As soon as I saw these triangles with large stitches, I thought ‘fuse and stitch’\u00a0!!\u00a0 \u00a0I wish I’d taken a clearer pic,\u00a0 but as an <\/span><\/em>aide memoire,<\/span> it’s perfect.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em>You can learn more about the makers, origins, uses and designs of Kuba cloth here<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 and find\u00a0masses of\u00a0superb images here<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I’m a fan, and would love a piece – however I don’t think\u00a0 they have ever been cheap; and I expect that with the primary source being male craftsmen in the war-torn Democratic Republic of the Congo<\/span><\/a>, that few of them currently have much time to spend on this ancient craft.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
