I\u00a0was checking through my blank page sketch book, where I sketch out\/doodle pattern ideas in pencil,\u00a0and often add\u00a0single words or\u00a0lists alongside, and there I found these apparently odd examples from the same page, beginning with the trapped\/wrapped\/mapped thing.\u00a0 You’ll note I am a frequent user of ….\u00a0\u00a0 and very large **s for emphasis\u00a0 in my notes\/diagrams.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I know perfectly well who Nik Krevitsky is or was, but can’t find any bio information on him.\u00a0 I\u00a0own a a copy of\u00a0his book, ‘Stitchery’, 1967, which I bought in 1976 –\u00a0which has always inspired me,\u00a0but currently\u00a0languishes unattended back in Perth\u00a0W. Australia.\u00a0\u00a0 But as for the rest of that note, perhaps it should read ‘wrapped carrots’ or even ‘trapped carrots’ –<\/em> though goodness knows, it is my own handwriting!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Moving right along, this next snippet really tells me a lot in these two words\u00a0‘fungal frills’ <\/em>which might sound odd to you !<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Fungal frills’ is a good\u00a0example of\u00a0how\u00a0a list or a note on a page is my shorthand for a great deal of information, reminding me of\u00a0a photo I took\u00a0of fungus growing\u00a0on a tree trunk we passed walking\u00a0in an arboretum in MD, USA\u00a0mid\u00a0last year.\u00a0 It wasn’t their subdued colour\u00a0but the delicacy they presented, with none of the ‘frills’ being over about 1″\/2cm max wide.\u00a0 Lacey and lovely, of course not ‘holey’ though:<\/p>\n

Following that\u00a0I returned here and fiddled with\u00a0nylon organza frills cut on the bias and not edged …\u00a0 but I was underwhelmed, because\u00a0they were boring to me, and won’t show them to you – not worth the\u00a0effort of digging them out, photographing and tweaking the pics for this page.\u00a0\u00a0 Just take it on faith that those\u00a0samples are in the sophisticated storage retrieval\u00a0system I have for samples\u00a0(unsorted in a\u00a0box on my lower bookshelf )\u00a0But even writing this\u00a0 paragraph\u00a0made me think of another possible approach ….<\/p>\n

Back to the carrots thing, though ….\u00a0 I really do know what\u00a0it refers to, though whether they’re trapped\u00a0or mapped I can’t decide and it doesn’t matter really.\u00a0 Back in the mid ’80’s I did a large wall panel of 3-d crocheted cups\/tubes, like barnacles, with wrapped, um, stalks, or carrots if you like, protruding from them and attaching to the panel below the cluster of tubes.\u00a0\u00a0They’re on my mind – and other holey things including what I’ve shown from this page are\u00a0all being revisited as I take a\u00a0closer look at something that has always intrigued me – ‘holes’ and the interesting textures they can lead to.\u00a0 <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
