I guess you can say sunrise is the grand finale of the dawn – but I missed it this morning by about 1o minutes.\u00a0\u00a0At 6-45 it was rather cold on the beach, with a slight wind blowing.\u00a0 The cleaners had been along late yesterday, and the little hut up on stilts\u00a0that shelters the lifeguard has been delivered and put in place.\u00a0\u00a0These huts are collected up and put into storage from\u00a0mid April to October.\u00a0 In the summer the\u00a0lifeguard begins duty\u00a0at 8am -and I’m wondering if it will be the same one who’s been there the past previous 2 summers.<\/p>\n

As I walked along,\u00a0 I saw only one offering, and at first thought it was\u00a0just rubbish\u00a0(Uruguayans are pretty awful with rubbish)\u00a0but the pigeons\u00a0returned\u00a0to continue eating something up there once the dog moved on, so I wandered from the water’s edge up to\u00a0the top of the beach, where I took photos of this\u00a0offering.\u00a0 I haven’t seen one laid out on newsprint before, and forgot to check\u00a0which paper it was …\u00a0 and now wonder, is the major metro daily or a lesser one favoured for this kind of thing?<\/p>\n

And a really nice sand pattern<\/span><\/em> down on the firm damp sand.\u00a0 There were\u00a0few footprints at that hour so I was able to choose a nice section.\u00a0 As you know I photograph sand patterns\u00a0frequently.\u00a0\u00a0I’ve been thinking of collaging ‘holes’ (see previous post)\u00a0 and lines (as usual)\u00a0with other textures for which the potential of ‘stitch’ is never far away\u00a0 (see recent posts on the glorious straight stitch, and some of my\u00a0pre-1988 mixed media works\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/span>) \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the last week or so I’ve discovered the inspiring mixed media work of Debbie Lyddon<\/span><\/a>\u00a0\u00a0whose treatment of coastal landscape in fabric, paint and stitch\u00a0is truly fabulous.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
