Question of Embellishments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of my online quilting friends\u00a0recently asked\u00a0a question\u00a0of her colleagues: whether we&#8217;d found adding embellishment had ever actually improved a less successful quilt.\u00a0 IMHO it doesn&#8217;t; any real fixes are those that involve a bit of\u00a0adding\/deleting, unpicking and re-sewing perhaps &#8211; but anyway, things to be done before layering, quilting and finishing.\u00a0 That&#8217;s just my opinion though, and there are clearly people out there who&#8217;d strongly disagree.<\/p>\n<div added glittery charms or doodads, tassels, \u00a0shells, teabags and the like, I have extensively embellished several quilts with machine embroidery, typically double or triple needle stitching, and\u00a0sometimes hand embroidery; but in one notable\u00a0exception I totally beaded\u00a0the one directly above, <em>Tidal Shallows 1.\u00a0<\/em> Perhaps I was exhausted after totally beading\u00a0it, I don&#8217;t recall exactly, but I was working on them and another\u00a0at much the same time,\u00a0as they all\u00a0resulted from a coastal holiday to a wonderful part of NW Western Australia.\u00a0\u00a0I feel the quilt was already successfully &#8216;watery&#8217;, although\u00a0the\u00a0stronger design of the two, so perhaps that&#8217;s why I beaded only that one and didn&#8217;t\u00a0bother beading of further embellishing <em>Tidal Shallows 2<\/em>.\u00a0 A viewer of the beaded T<em>idal Shallows 1<\/em> exclaimed &#8220;How watery that looks&#8221; and so I did feel my decision to go all out and totally bead the quilt\u00a0 was vindicated &#8211; but in no way was it an attempt to improve &#8216;a less than successful&#8217;
