Many of the titles for my quilts and mixed media works are blended\u00a0words.\u00a0 Making lists of\u00a0possible words,\u00a0and then trying out combinations, I don’t seem to have any trouble coming up with something I feel fits well – and then as they grow in number these\u00a0form\u00a0series.<\/p>\n

So Landlines<\/em><\/span> – this\u00a0first photo\u00a0is #6 in a series of very small works mounted on\u00a020cm artist canvases I paint myself, some of which have gone along the coast to the Galeria Los Caracoles in Jose Ignacio.\u00a0 It has\u00a0been photographed against flat black, and\u00a0if you look carefully you can get a sense of the dimensionality of it on it’s cream painted canvas stretcher mount.\u00a0 The leather is backgrounded by grey sheer fabric, the edges of which have been burned.\u00a0 Burning is very therapeutic ! and the textures and patterns are characteristic of a fait bit of my recent work, particularly the Timetracks<\/em> series.<\/p>\n

These next photos are ALL of the one work “Timetracks 17” <\/em><\/span>that I had my wonderful photographer Eduardo shoot against three different backgrounds.\u00a0\u00a0A client\u00a0here has ordered a small work (this is\u00a0about 30cm x 40cm) and I made two in\u00a0different colourways, so that she can choose.\u00a0 She may choose between them, or take something else that I have available.\u00a0 Either way, I plan to offer this piece in print form, too, so having not done much about prints for a while, I\u00a0am once again preparing to come up with a good quality printer here.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I thought it would be interesting to see the effect of different backgrounds to the piece: <\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Finally “Timetracks 17”<\/em>\u00a0against white – but there is no white in the actual work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I like the idea of\u00a0a coloured background wrapping around a canvas so that in one way it\u00a0‘frames’ the work set against it,\u00a0without there actually being a physical\u00a0frame.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Please feel free to comment on this as I’d value your feedback..<\/p>\n
