A \u00a0few weeks ago\u00a0I posted\u00a0 group of\u00a0small landscape works from 2000,\u00a0\u00a0mounted on woven newspaper mats which seemed like a good idea at the time.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0A while back I\u00a0dug them out to give me something of\u00a0 a starting point<\/span><\/a> in a small\u00a0pieced works\u00a0direction to which I feel increasingly drawn.<\/p>\n

These\u00a0fit a 20cm x 20cm art stretcher.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I love pieced work, where areas of different coloured and textured fabrics are joined by stitch to form a new fabric surface pattern.\u00a0 Call it patchwork if you will, which it technically is;\u00a0 however I\u00a0think to most people the term ‘patchwork’ \u00a0has connotations of templates,\u00a0 traditional patterns and precise geometric shapes.\u00a0 The ultra fine lines in pieced work\u00a0 by Margery Goodall<\/span><\/a>\u00a0several years ago\u00a0alerted me to technical potential that I had\u00a0not explored in my own work (and since developed in\u00a0my Ebb & Flow<\/span><\/a> series)\u00a0\u00a0Recent improvisational pieced works\u00a0of Lisa Call<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and Erin Wilson<\/span><\/a>\u00a0have reminded me of the potential of ‘lines’.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
