Take it from a dyed-in-the-wool teacher: there’s nothing quite as effective for learning how to do something as working through it step by step, and possibly problem solving along the way. I often use this mantra, and according to this blog’s search function, I’ve used it at least 100 times here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A couple of weeks ago I made a short video for the first time in my life. My wall quilt “Spirogyra 3: In The Weeds” was selected for the Interpretations26 exhibition at the Visions Museum Of Textile Art, VMOTA,<\/a> <\/strong>and in additon to the usual updated headshot photo, resume and biography, we artists were asked to send them a 60 second (max) video of us talking about our art. I thought I’d have a go and so consulted tech savvy daughter who works with videos all the time, and she outlined what to do. It took me a while to rig up a very non-professional looking structure to hold the phone camera at more or less face level \ud83d\ude42 <\/p>\n\n\n

By asking AI, I learned how to take a single frame from the video and save it as a still shot. That was so easy that I’m encouraged to learn basic editing.<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

I pinned the quilt to another one already hanging on a wall in our house where the morning light’s great. I placed a small coffee table up on the dining table, and on top of that parked a couple of thick books holding an unopened box of wine and a coffee tin that with a bit of duck tape propped the phone up at MOL face level. I’d worked out what I’d say, and 60 seconds is not very long! After several takes I sent them to said daughter who edited out the rubbishy bits and it resulted in 52 seconds – perfect. And the bits she removed – the repeats featuring the bloopers of clenched lips and teeth, eye rolling, one swear word I think and a brief nose scratching incident, will go public shortly once the good video has had time to go viral unimpeded \ud83d\ude42<\/mark> <\/mark> I have to say, though, that I fear close friends and family will all say they’re so typical…<\/mark><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
